Should I finance or not?

I live in ny I want to buy a car from a dealership that's between 7000-10000 dollars. I have about 4000 saved up. Would it make sense to pay some $ down and finance the rest? I'm not really sure how financing works meaning would I be able to avoid interest and have a small bump in my credit score by paying the loan off very early or would it not matter?
